LaRance, Mozer, Tintinger light up Montana state meet

Dawson LaRance of Billings Senior and Zander Mozer of Helena smashed all-time state records in the Class AA championships at Butte, and freshman high jump sensation Trey Tintinger came tantalizingly close.

LaRance broke a 31-year-old Montana record in the 800 meters when he ran 1:50.22 to claim the Class AA title in Butte. The University of Minnesota signee also stepped up to the 1,600 and ran 4:15.51 to defeat Bozeman’s Chase Equall and Sentinel’s Marshall Beatty.

LaRance also helped Billings Senior smash the state record in the 4x400 relay with 3:18.01.

Mozer broke the Montana record in the 400 meters when he ran 47.52, becoming the second boy in state history to dip under 48 seconds. Mozer also won the 200 meters in 21.74.

Tintinger of Helena jumped 7-1.50 and broke the freshman class national record.

Morgan Evans of Great Falls and Maddie Brockel of Billings West put their sprinting rivalry to the test as both earned a victory against one another. Evans edged Brockel in the100 final 12.27 to 12.34. Brockel won the 200 in 25.06 to Evans’ 25.64.

Brockel also ran 57.78 to win the AA 400 meters, and Evans won the 100 hurdles (14.47) and 300 hurdles (43.17).

Glacier junior Annie Hill ran a season’s best 58.09 in the 400 meters, won the 800 in 2:09.27, won the 1,600 in 4:54.61 and took the 3,200 for the third year in a row with 10:46.10.  

Equall, a member of the NXN champion cross country team, won the boys 3,200 meters in 9:24.54.

Twin brothers Bryson and Braydon Demning of Billings West went 1-2 in the AA discus and were separated by one inch: 163-9 to 163-8. Bryson was also won the shot put and Braydon was third.

Bozeman’s Camille Landon won the girls high jump with 5-8.

Senior Pipi Eitel from Belgrade was a standout in the Class A meet, leading her team to the title with victories in the 400 (58.13), the 800 (2:13.93), the 1,600 (4:57.07) and the 3,200 (10:56.69). She was also third in the 300-meter hurdles. Jacob Grinwis of Belgrade doubled 1:54.10 and 4:21.85 for two victories and he also was part of the winning 4x400 relay.

Sophomore Calla Haldorson of Corvallis won the Class A discus with 147-11. Garrison Hughes from Sidney made 16-0 in the Class A pole vault.

Bigfork’s Bryn Morley, a junior, won the Class B 800 (2:15.00), 1,600 (5:03.50) and 3,200 (11.06.08). Her fourth victory came as a member of the 4x400 relay.

The brother-sister combo of Cleet and Wrenzi Wrzesinski of Baker were all over the Class B meet. Cleet, a senior, won the 200 meters, the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and long jump. Wrenzi, a sophomore, won the 100, the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.

Sophia Stiles of Malta won the Class B long jump (17-9.50), triple jump (37-10) and high jump (5-2). She was also second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles

Alex Veltkamp led the Manhattan Christian girls to the Class C title with victories in the 400 (57.90), the 800 (2:23.02) and the long jump (17-2). Mark Estes won the 100, 200 and 400 for Drummond.
